The Universidad del Mar on its Huatulco campus has held conferences on various subjects, among which can be mentioned:

• Environmental Policies Relating to Tourism
• An overview of the National Astronomical Observatory
• An A.V. presentation on the largest telescope in the world
• Democracy and Economic Development in Japan

UMAR offers, on an ongoing basis, training courses in scientific fields related to the sea and the earth. Similarly, it works in upgrading the personal capabilities of its personnel and of guest members of public, private and social institutions. Such courses are given by university professors as well as members of the Extension Dept.

In addition to this, UMAR offers basis level computer courses to children from public primary schools who, due their socioeconomic status, would otherwise not have access to such equipment. These courses are given on four consecutive Saturdays by trained university staff.
